This is a little Photoshop or Gimp (I can't remember) exercise I did, which became the pub sign for the slightly eccentric Google+ Community of the same name.

Deep Space Nine on Acid 3
The DS9 experiment, is quite a big step
away from what I "usually"do, in the sense that I worked in
a totally different style, with materials I abandoned long ago. The
reason for this, is that it originated as an assignment I made during
my internship as an an art teacher at a high school. De assignment
was: "Make a illustration about your favorite TV show or movie."
However when I examined how the kids
could go about it, I came to the conclusion that the materials
available to them, were the ones, I never worked with. Especially,
gouache which I hadn't touched in twenty years. So, I decided to do
the assignment myself first, to see how well I would do.
I chose Deep Space Nine as subject,
because I always quite liked it. Then I thought it might be nice to
merge it with a comic style, and since it was an American series Jack
Kirby seemed a nice choice.
The result of Kirby's semi psychedelic
silver surfer style, fused with the often nightmarish struggles of
Major Kira, kind of led to this Deep Space nine on Acid concept.
I'm a slow worker and those dots took
me ages.
However, after all is said and done,
gouache still sucks, and it's the last time I'll use that. Fine
liners aren't really my thing. But the old dip pen & ink, made a
spectacular come back.
Anyway, this was a one off, and I
thought it might make a nice addition.
